If you love the classic oblong shaped chicken sandwich from your childhood, you will love this copycat Burger King original chicken sandwich!
You know it. You loved it. If you’re like me, it was your favorite part of “hot lunch” at elementary school. You probably stopped eating it, though, because it doesn’t fit very well into your daily caloric intake. But I’m very excited to let you all know that…the original chicken sandwich is BACK!
I seriously loved this sandwich so much growing up. Whenever my mom would let us eat fast food, my sister and I would always fight over “McDonalds vs. Burger King”. She usually won…because McDonald’s fries. But I always wanted the long funny shaped chicken sandwich from BK.
I always say on here that I am on a never ending mission to find healthy replicas of some of my favorite childhood unhealthy treats. This copycat Burger King Original Chicken Sandwich TAKES THE CAKE. The taste is almost identical, without breaking the smartpoint bank. This copycat version is 8 WW smartpoints for the whole sandwich (vs. 20 from the restaurant). I would call it a no brainer.
How to make the copycat chicken sandwich
- Form 6oz of lean ground chicken into a patty shape.
- Heat a skillet on the stovetop on medium heat with cooking spray (I use Ghee spray for extra crisp).
- In two separate bowls, have a whisked egg and panko breadcrumbs waiting for dipping.
- Dip the patty into the whisked egg & then the panko.
- Place the panko crusted patty onto the hot skillet.
- Cook for 12 minutes on each side. (the panko on the patty should be nice and browned & crispy looking).
- While the patty is cooking, take a sesame bun and spread 1 tbsp of mayonnaise onto each side (I use Best Foods Light Mayo).
- Slice a tomato.
- Once the patty is done cooking, place on the bun.
- Top with shredded lettuce & tomato.
- Be brought immediately back to your childhood.
Next time you are craving fast food, make this baby instead. I guarantee you and the whole family will love it!
